and the word is...

It's strange how words catch on. Or new uses for words catch on. Or new ways to emphasize a word catches on. One day, you're not sure what the word is. Or you've certainly never used it in that context--and a week later, it's EVERYWHERE. That's how it seemed to happen. In a thirteen minute tirade about {blank} I had to stop J and ask him if he realized he kept saying "really?" In that way that doubts everything {blank} has told him--really? did {blank} mean that--really? is {blank} serious about that--really? And in that "you are such a moron you can't "really" be serious! really?

He keeps saying it. The picture above provides a pretty good sense of the disdain in the undertone of the "really". And of course, {blank} gives him every reason to use it every 3.8 seconds. And now, every friend I have is also saying it. When I thought it couldn't spread anymore, the annoying DJ on E! radio started saying it. Really? Srsly...how does that happen so fast?!

It's like we all find something to latch onto and just run with it--as fast and as hard as we can. But it is totally a word that you can use at all times...and it does make you feel better. Now I find myself saying it in my head when I'm stuck behind someone who's decided to make an illegal turn and not use their blinker. Because they're better than that. Really?
